You wouldn't know it judging by this picture but I hated running. I mean I really hated it. I saw people who ran up and down the lake....I just wanted to trip them. You've thought about too. I mean I wasn't a slob. I did ride my bike a lot and worked out at the gym. I challenged myself to hire a personal trainer because I really wanted to find out what the deal was about running. I had already completed two Chicago marathons but I wanted to run it entirely in 2013.
In November of 2012 I chose a personal trainer who could help me with my goal. I had a history of shin splints and my flat feet weren't helping me out either. So for the first three months we worked on core. That was it. For three solid months we focused on that. Then it was time to go out for a run. Like a bat out of hell I just took off. I was totally shocked by how fast I was going and with no pain whatsoever. Needless to say what we did..worked.
So the picture you see here is me completing my first race ever without stopping. No walking just ran the whole 7k race. First race I ever did that. I felt so great. So now I've been running on my own around the neighborhood. Even traveled to California to run the Disneyland Half Marathon. I will give more details on how many races I've done and the progress leading up to the Chicago Marathon.
I lost over 40lbs since November and it hasn't been easy. I've had my ups and downs but I continue to fight on. I never want to go back to where I can't run without pain again.
